I'll get to the column in a minute, but I have to say that one of the most flavorful cigars I ever smoked was a Miami made La Gloria Cubana panatela way back in the early 90's. I ordered a box from Mike's and they were exquisite. IMHO a smaller ring gauge cigar gives a bit more wrapper flavor to the smoke. I've always liked Toro size cigars but more and more I order Corona sizes for a shorter but satisfying smoke.
Let's hear it for the Lonsdales, Coronas, Panatellas and even the lowly Cheroots! Great article
Kevin I posted on that link. Kevin I enjoy your site, thanks.
Gotta give the love to the smaller rings!
Thanks George!
It' a shame when new blends or brands of cigars are released in the larger gauges only.
I'm mostly in the same camp as GLP. I'll try most anything once, but when I survey my humidors I see mostly coronas, lonsdales, corona gordas, and robustos. Sure, there are a few stragglers that I've picked up along the way, but it's a rare occasion that I'll walk into a shop and head for those behemoths that are all the rage these days...
I have to say, big and fat gauge cigars are the absolute best while playing golf. They can last you 9 holes! It is great. I usually save the big fat ones for when i'm on the links.... man, I can't wait till it get warmer!
Being new I'd have to say my favourites so far are the coronas and rubustos. When the wife goes out and I'm on the back deck reading a good book a Churchill comes in handy.
I like bigger ring sizes (50+). I tend to smoke a little fast and with smaller smokes, they get hotter and turn bitter. So I have found the bigger rings suit my style better. Sometimes I go for a robusto or something thinner after dinner...
Hey it's sparhawk, great to hear from you Toby.
I really prefer the smaller ring cigars at this point, from the small demi tass to the robusto, and maybe a lonsdale every once in a while.
Just get more flavor from the smaller ring cigars, if I want to smoke longer I just smoke another one !
